Questions on Ceramic Brake Pads for MAGURA Models

Magura Technical Compatibility
1. How do Ceramic compounds interact with Magura’s piston seals?
Magura calipers are designed for specific heat tolerances. Ceramic compounds assist in seal longevity by acting as an insulator. By keeping the heat concentrated in the rotor and the pad material rather than the caliper body, the thermal stress on the internal piston seals is significantly reduced.
2. Is the 4-pad individual setup compatible with MT7 thermal cooling fins?
Yes. Our 4-pad individual configurations are manufactured to standard Magura dimensions, allowing for proper airflow and compatibility with existing cooling architectures. The separate pads allow for more independent piston movement and improved heat dissipation across the rotor.
3. Why do Ceramic-KEVLAR® pads provide a more linear feel on Magura levers?
Magura systems feature high mechanical leverage, which can cause a sudden or “grabby” engagement with sintered metallic pads. In contrast, the Top Brake Performance series, made with a KEVLAR®-Ceramic composite, provides a more progressive friction coefficient, allowing riders to better control braking force and manage deceleration before reaching wheel lock-up.
4. What is the effect of Ceramic pads on Magura MDR-P floating rotors?
Floating rotors are designed to handle lateral expansion from heat. Top Beake Ceramic pads complement this by establishing a stable transfer layer on the steel braking surface. This reduces the abrasive wear typically seen with metallic pads, preserving the structural integrity of the floating rotor’s rivets and carrier.
5. Can these pads be used with non-Magura mineral oils?
While our pads are chemically compatible with all bicycle-grade mineral oils, we recommend following the manufacturer’s hydraulic fluid specifications to ensure the seals and leverage ratios remain within their engineered parameters.
